How to switch from legal transcription to medical ...

Assuming you *reallywant to do that, you should go to an accredited school (most are online). The reason I give fair warning is that the industry is changing. Itu2019s not going away, contrary to what others may say. However, there really is less work these days because of electronic medical records (EMRs) and voice recognition software. Thereu2019s more editing involved now than transcribing, yet I still do straight transcription because I found a peach of a position, and Iu2019m not letting go until they turn the last light out! Check out online schools such as Career Step (you can use my name as a referral) or Andrews. Some community colleges offer courses as well. It takes about nine months of training. Thereu2019s the objective portion of the course which refreshes you on grammar, spelling, punctuation and all, and you learn medical language, anatomy, pharmacology, research skills, etc., in the first part of the course, and then you get transcription training, meaning listening to/transcribing about 900 reports (I believe 900 was the number required for certification).
