Teddy-bear Cholla

Place: Arizona desert, on a two-day hiking trip

Transcription: Hey there! Take a look at this cactus! This plant has 2 common names. Some called it “Jumping Cactus,” since according to my father, the pieces might actually leap up onto us! The other typical name is “Teddy-bear Cholla.” Look at this, the cactus does look kind like a furry teddy bear, but not rather so. (Mavis got rock and tapped the cactus, knocking off a Teddy-bear piece.) Look how simple that a person broke off! What occurred was that my father rested on among these Teddy-bear pieces on the ground. He was in misery, dancing around and choosing at his butt. (Mavis mimed her daddy picking spikes out of butt, doing it from the side and bending over under legs.) That didn’t get them all, so my dad next did this. (Mavis mimed her dad putting his hand inside his pant, feeling around and pulling out more spikes.) My dad still can not get them all, so he dropped his trousers and asked me to pull spikes out of his naked butt. I looked at his naked butt, and stated, “Why did you rest on the cactus? You matured in Arizona, you ought to understand much better!” My dad protected, “However those puffy soft teddy bears looked so comfortable to sit on!” Oh well, it was Mavis to the rescue. (Mavis unclamped the medical forceps she was carrying on her shirt and mimed pulling spikes out of her daddy’s butt.).
