Hydrophobic VS Hydrophilic Hormone Signalling

featured image

Hdrophobic signalling particles can travel through the lipid bilayer of the membrane due to both being hydrphobic. When within the cell, the particle can bind to a receptor or transcription aspect to prevent or make it possible for transcription. Hydrophilic signalling particles can not travel through the membrane, rather they should bind to receptors on the extracellular side of the cell membrane. These receptors can be ligand gated channels which open when the particle binds or they can be G-coupled protein receptors which alter shape a little when the signal binds therefore launching another particle within the cell which can then bind to a transcription element like with hydrophibic signalling or can open other channels.
