#medicaltranscription #medicaltranscriptionist #medicalassistants #medicalassistant #nonmedicalprescriber #medicalprescriber
Is a medical scriber & a medical transcriptionist the same?
The answer is “No.”
Even though they both make a physician’s job easier, there are differences between them & the tasks they do. If you are in the MT business & had this notion that they are same, we advise you to watch the video & know what the differences are.
Medical scribers are present in a physician’s exam room, documenting information when the visits happen.
On the other hand, MTs do not remain present at a doctor’s office at any time & nor do they add any patient’s information to the EHR. MTs provide transcriptions of a doctor’s voice records & turn them into written medical records.
The suitability of both of these is dependent on the needs of a physician’s practice.
What does a medical scriber do?
Medical scribers extract relevant information from patient encounters. They generate & maintain patient’s medical records that are created under a doctor’s supervision. They document information mostly in regards to procedures or laboratory results.
In short they capture & update each patient’s roadmap while they are under their physician’s care. What are the job roles of medical transcriptionists?
MTs use their listening skills to document a doctor’s voice dictation. They listen to audio files & accurately convert these into a written text format. MTs work in a different space within the facility, in an office, or work-from-home. In simple words, Scribers focus on the key elements of patient appointments while MTs only record the voice dictations assigned to them by the doctors.
Even if medical scribers & MTs provide medical documentation to a certain extent, their roles are different & require different training.
